people confuse being told they don’t share the same positions under oppression with an invalidation of whatever experiences of suffering they have
i feel that some people on here are co-opting language against oppression for the sake of proving that their suffering needs to be taken seriously. they extrapolate systemic domination or exploitation from interpersonal experiences of invalidation–they arrive at their conclusions ass-backwards: “i feel socially excluded, and exclusion is a symptom of oppression, so therefore i must be oppressed.” they engage with systemic forces and effects only to the extent that it continues to validate the social importance of their suffering. they have no interest in thinking about the systemic beyond that.
